The Other Side of Archaeology – Free Public Archaeology Lab Program at Riverside
Learn about "the other side of archaeology" and get an up-close look at the artifacts that have been found during recent digs at Riverside. Work with archaeologists from the Kentucky Archaeological Survey to wash, identify, sort and study artifacts from the property. The experience will include a behind-the-scenes tour led by an archaeologist of locations of past and current archaeological sites including, the detached kitchen, slave (later tenant) houses, smoke house, wash house, ice house and barn. Garden plots are available at the Farnsley-Moremen Community Garden. Sign up on March 31 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Community Garden Pavilion. If it rains, sign ups will be at the Riverside Visitors Center. Cost is $20/year for a 30' X 30' plot with FREE water and FREE use of tiller. Call the Jefferson County Extension Office for more details: Monday - Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm at 502/569-2344.
